Where to Metal Detect

When you start off metal detectors, the first question, where do they find coins, jewelry or other objects. To answer this question we must first define what you want to search. Money and coins, jewelry, old, old objects, or all of the above?

For money or jewelry, you would want to go where the crowds gathered. These areas include beaches or lake shores. Other areas to consider would be outdoor events such as concerts, parks, theaters, etc. You would be surprisedwhat you can find in these areas after an event. I have found on average, about five dollars after an event, and several pieces of jewelry. Of course it all depends on the event and I always make an attempt to return the jewelry to the rightful owner.

Now if you want to look for old relics, some places to consider would be battlefields, ghost towns, old mining camps, old wagon train trails, etc. In these locations you can find such items as old coins, ammunition, buckles, etc. What I enjoy finding are the old coins since I am an avid coin collector.

Now when you go looking for some of these old relics, you need to know if you can. For example, battlefields, such as those from the Civil War era or Revolutionary War, are protected and relics cannot be removed from the battleground.

Now if you are vacationing somewhere you are not familiar with, you can always locate the nearest metal detecting club. They will be glad to provide you with information on locations where you would be able to take your metal detector.
